This was our was our greatest year in terms of social events. We played teams from France and America. We went to France in January ’73 thanks to the support of Dave Horsfall (the Student Union Sports Manager) and played the University of Lille. We lost by 89 pins (12993-12904) but only due to the fact that Alan Metcalf and Ray Smith got lost for over 12 hours and arrived late (maybe due to a small intake of French liquid).

We also played an American Airforce base which improved both our bowling and our ability to drink Budweiser.

This is the year we changed our name to the Sheffield Students International Tenpin Bowling Club (SSITBC) – heights of grandeur!

We were runners up in our Zone and runners up in the Nationals. We won the UAU, the Manchester 6’s, 2nd in the Birmingham Marathon, 3rd 5th and 6th in the Brunel Doubles and 5th in the Leeds Trios. The Ladies won WIVAB again. Our greatest success was in the Salford 6’s where we won the doubles, trios, quads and sixes; and Bobby Boulton won the Individual Championship.
