1967-69

1967-1968

Captain: Fuzz Jordan  Secretary: Chris Hay

High Game of the first week was 184 by Fuzz Jordan. Other results for this year are a little sketchy. However, Bruce McArthur informed us that the High Average was won on the last game of the season by John Rafferty with a 154 compared to Bruce’s 152. John also got the high game (254) and high series (609) on the very last day, (170-185-254).

We joined the UCTBA league, and did very well in our first season, in fact if one university had not stacked its first team we would have qualified for the semi-final. Our zone was Birmingham, Cambridge, Leicester, Nottingham and Warwick.

The club was now over 200 members strong, each week Queen’s Road Bowl had thirty 5-man teams bowling and this was the biggest league in the country at any level of competition.

There was one black spot in the year. Chris Hay – the club Treasurer – was killed in a pot-holing accident. We have two reminders of him, the annual Wednesday afternoon high average trophy, and the yellow bowling shirts which he designed.
